e-Catalogue can be put onto the Web site at an affordable cost.
The e-Catalogue is linked up with ERP system for direct integration.
Current E-commerce Implementation
Greenfield partners with South Smart Limited to produce a new and
improved web site and e-catalogue. Improved user functions such
as auto-updating, news, FAQs and contact forms allow users to have
fulfilling experience on the Website.
Price is a crucial factor for Greenfield when considering deploying
the ERP system, thus they selected a local and affordable version
rather than international software. Below is the current status
of ERP applications:
Hong Kong end-user department handles sales, accounting and shipping.
Factory in Guanlan adopts the production order module. Hong Kong
colleagues will place an order and China counterpart will handle
that order. The same software is installed in both Hong Kong and
China. The SQL database is synchronized twice a day at noon and
during 6:30-7:00pm. IDD dial-up line access is used instead of Internet
Access, because the connection charge for Internet is more expensive
in Mainland China.
Inventory module is not implemented yet because Greenfield lacks
the human resource and capability to manage the relatively complex
control procedures.
Importance of IT Solution Provider
When Greenfield introduced the ERP system in 2000, the software
was not 100% suitable for the company. The IT solution provider
handled all requests from Greenfield, ranging from color assortment,
individual bar-code for different item/color combinations, and changes
in database and reports. It took some time to handle those on-and-off
changes, but it was a good process reengineering experience for
the company. The re-engineering cost was well- managed and controlled
by contractor as the maintenance contract was structured in terms
of man-days under a packaged price.
Currently, e-commerce is used for internal/external communication
and critical sales ordering cycle. Moreover, the recently developed
Web site further enhance customer services by showing the production
information on the Web, therefore customer can easily access the
information. In future, customers can track the status of their
ordered products over the Web. The current IT/e-commerce set-up
is shown in Table 2.
